A Letter From MVLA Foundation President, Andrea Gray
With your support, we are up for the challenge!

Back in December, we sent an email saying. "we can't wait to see what 2020 will bring". Little did we know in the next few months the world would change in a way we never could have predicted!

2020 will be remembered as the year of the pandemic, but there are some positive and innovative changes in education that have happened.

  • We reached record high audience engagement with MVLA Parent Education speakers via Zoom during shelter-in-place.

  • A district College and Career Center Summer Webinar series was created, and we funded virtual summer appointments and drop-in hours for seniors with our College Counselors.

  • Students built on MVLA's spirit of innovation by utilizing equipment from Innovative Learning Grants to tackle real-world problems like creating 3D face shields and masks for essential workers.

Our grants are providing students and teachers with the tools they need to enhance the remote learning experience.

  • Chromebooks for checkout and internet assistance for students in need

  • CHAC Telehealth appointments with licensed CHAC therapists

  • College and Career Center--virtual appointments and information sessions

  • Tutorial Center--virtual tutoring to help students with their coursework

  • Innovative Learning Grants which include materials for students to take home, such as portable microscopes, microphones for choir, robotics kits, and more. Online enhancements include a PE App, Weather Station App for labs, and digital frog dissections.

As we start a year that is filled with change and uncertainty, we know that MVLA is up for the challenge. With your support in the upcoming year, the Foundation will continue to empower our teachers to use innovative teaching strategies and create a community where our students can thrive and succeed.

With gratitude,

Andrea Gray & the MVLA High School Foundation Board
